Weekend Wine: Vouvray

(image via wineskinny.com)

With snow on the horizon, images of sitting by a warm fire with hot cocoa and a good book have been dancing through my head. That is, until, I remember that I have no fireplace and there will be no fire. I just got a weekly email from Wine Skinny which directed me to a blog post where the writer is singing the praises of Vouvray. Now, I'm not much of a white wine drinker but I do love Vouvray. It's quite lovely really and instead of trying to fumble for the words to describe it, I thought I would direct you here. The post gives a great (brief) overview of Vouvray, recommends several bottles at different price points and makes some cheese pairing suggestions.

Here's to being snowed in with a nice glass of Vouvray!

Tida Thai

Tida Thai Cuisine on Urbanspoon
First, let me say that I have never been to Thailand. Second, let me say that I loved the food at Tida Thai. R and I went for the first time this past weekend to the Constituion Dr. location after hearing rave reviews of it from a few friends. We love several other Thai restaurants in the area, but thought it would be fun to try some place new. This location is tucked away in the Kmart/Michaels shopping center across from Town Center in Virginia Beach.

We were welcomed by the staff upon entry and the service was prompt. Just as we had finished our dumpling appetizer the plate was cleared and the waitress brought our pad thai. Ok, so we weren't very adventurous. I almost always try to wander off the beaten path when it comes to ordering, but I can't seem to deviate when it comes to Thai cuisine. I had the veggie pad thai with tofu and R had the chicken pad thai. We both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had enough leftover to bring with us to work for lunch the next day.

This is by far the least expensive Thai restuarant that I have eaten at in the area. Forget a coupon, this is a Deliberate Dining pick because the prices are so reasonable. R's chicken pad thai was $8.95 and my veggie pad thai was $7.95 -- and those were dinner prices. The dumplings were around $5. The prices on alcohol, however, were very high. Draft and bottled beers were particularly expensive. Overall, Tida Thai is a great place to eat. If you head there, please let us know what you think!

Did you know that when you use a Buy One, Get One Free coupon you should not be charged for tax on your free meal? According to this article from the Food Matters blog on hamptonroads.com, that money is "ill-gained." Considering the fact that tax on food in Virginia Beach is 10.5%, be sure to check your receipt the next time you get a BOGO deal!
